About Leigh
I have spent my entire career working in education. At first, I was a secondary school teacher, but I have gone on to teach in university and prison, honing my teaching skills across a range of different environments.
Fundamentally, I've found that teaching is a way that I can support others to tap into their potential, expand their sense of what they are capable of, and make meaningful progress towards whatever their goals might be.
Whether that has been teaching prisoners to write letters to their children, or helping Year 10s who have always despised English to come out of the other side of their GCSE with a grade that they are proud of, why I teach is all about building and harnessing self-belief.

With a PGCE teaching qualification and 5 years' experience teaching GCSE and A-Level in secondary schools, before working in university and prison education, I have worked with learners across a range of subjects and with different experiences of formal education.
As a result, I know that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to education, and I put a fundamental focus on meeting each tutee at their starting point, and developing an understanding of how they learn best.
I am confident tutoring GCSE and A-Level English and English Literature across all major exam-board specifications, and I also have experience tutoring the Functional Skills Maths and English specifications at Level 1 and 2.
Whatever the subject and qualification, I work with tutees and/or parents/guardians to agree clear goals and expectations, and take time to build rapport and create a comfortable learning environment that balances challenge, support, and finding individual motivation.
Those initial conversations will inform the length and structure of lessons, with 50-90 minutes as a more general figure.
