About Kate

Hi, I’m a piano tutor with 12 years of experience and a Bachelor of Music in Sacred Music, specializing in piano and organ. My training gave me a deep foundation in classical and liturgical music, but I also have a strong passion for historical American styles like ragtime, stride, and early jazz. I love blending academic structure with creative freedom in my lessons. I work with both school-aged students and adult learners, helping each person connect to the style and music that inspires them. Whether you’re learning Scott Joplin’s syncopation or exploring the energy of Fats Waller, I’ll guide you step by step. I focus on good technique, rhythmic precision, and developing strong ears and hands. For younger students, I create engaging lessons that mix structure with fun. For adults, I provide historical context and thoughtful practice strategies. My goal is to make these rich styles accessible and enjoyable for everyone. About the lesson

My teaching approach focuses on helping pianists perform with confidence, clarity, and joy. I work on more than just the notes—you’ll learn how to manage performance anxiety, develop strong stage presence, and connect emotionally with your audience. Lessons are structured to build both technical skills and inner confidence. We use proven memorization techniques to help you feel secure and prepared in any setting.

I guide students through recital prep, audition readiness, and performance mindset. Whether you're preparing for a piano exam or playing for a church service, I tailor each session to your unique needs. I'm very good at working with The Exam Taker and The Church Musician, offering strategies that support consistent progress and peace of mind under pressure.

We’ll also cover how to shape musical phrases, create expressive interpretations, and handle mistakes with grace. I encourage regular performance practice to simulate real situations in a supportive environment. Over time, students learn to channel nerves into expressive energy. You’ll build not just skill, but trust in yourself.
