About Richa

I am a student pursuing masters in psychology, after having pursued B. A. English Hons. in my graduation. I have studied Physics, Chemistry and Maths in classes 11 and 12. I have taught English in a school for one year, and given individual and group tuitions for 2-3 years.

About the lesson

While teaching any new word, I first teach the student it's etymology i.e. roots so that it becomes more concrete in his/her memory and it also enables him/her to be able to guess the meanings of similar words. I try to incorporate the habit of reading in a student while teaching new words. I try to develop in a student, the curiosity for new words by having him/her maintain a personal dictionary. If this is accomplished, I believe that the student's vocabulary will grow manifolds in a short span of time. Constantly using the new words they learn, in communication and writing will enable them to understand the context in which those words are used. So I also include writing exercises for my students, along with fun exercises like them designing their own plays and writing stories, poetry etc. I also design weekly worksheets or tests for them or more worksheets upon request. I also use audio-visuals for teaching and I make notes for students where I break down difficult words in ways that can help the student remember the new word in terms of words he already knows. I teach phonetics first for oral expression, break down sentences into it's different elements to teach sentence construction for written expression. Oral comprehension and written comprehenson will follow expression.
