About Jacob
Hi! I’m Jacob, a chess tutor who specializes in teaching young children through creativity, storytelling, and play. I graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2025 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music, and I also have a background teaching music to children (which strongly shapes how I approach chess instruction).
Teaching music has trained me to work patiently with young learners, break down complex ideas into simple steps, and keep lessons engaging even when attention spans are short. I bring that same approach to chess, focusing less on memorization or competition and more on understanding, curiosity, and confidence.
I excel at introducing chess to preschool and early elementary students in ways that feel fun, accessible, and meaningful. I use stories, games, and interactive challenges to help children connect with the pieces and ideas, making learning feel natural rather than overwhelming.
I believe early chess education should be joyful and encouraging. My goal is to help children develop problem-solving skills, patience, and creativity while simultaneously discovering that chess can be exciting and fun. I strive to create a positive learning environment where all ages feel supported, successful, and eager to keep learning.

I teach chess to young children by turning learning into play, stories, and discovery. My approach is built around the idea that kids learn best when they’re having fun, feel safe to explore, and are genuinely excited to participate.
Rather than starting with rigid rules or memorization, I introduce chess concepts through imaginative storytelling, simple games, and interactive challenges. Pieces become characters, moves have meaning, and each lesson feels more like an adventure than a class. This helps children as young as preschool age stay engaged while naturally absorbing foundational chess skills.
As a tutor, I focus just as much on how children learn as what they learn. I adapt my teaching style to each child’s attention span, personality, and learning pace, encouraging curiosity, confidence, and positive problem-solving. Chess becomes a tool not only for strategic thinking, but also for listening, patience, and creative expression.
I value clear communication with families and believe parents should always feel informed and comfortable with their child’s progress. Lessons are structured but flexible, playful but intentional, and always rooted in encouragement rather than pressure.
My goal is simple: to help children fall in love with learning chess while building skills that support their growth both on and off the board.
