About Mary
I’m a TESOL Level 5–certified tutor with a background in education, translation, and second-language learning. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education and Spanish, and I’ve taught Spanish at both the middle and high school levels. Because I learned Spanish as a second language (and now live in Costa Rica), I understand the real challenges of communicating in a new language. I work best with motivated adult learners who want stronger conversation skills, clearer pronunciation, and practical vocabulary for travel and work. My approach is friendly, steady, and direct, with corrections based on what you prefer. I speak with a standard American accent and teach in the Central Standard Time zone (GMT -6:00).

I offer practical, conversation-focused English lessons for intermediate (B1+) learners who want to speak more clearly and confidently. Lessons combine pronunciation coaching, guided conversation, and targeted grammar support (only where it improves what you’re trying to say). We also build useful vocabulary and natural phrases from real topics you care about.
Typical 60-minute lesson: check-in + goal, pronunciation focus (1–2 areas), guided conversation with coaching, targeted grammar support, vocabulary practice, and a short feedback plan for next time.
If you’re new, we can start with a 30-minute placement + goals session to evaluate your level, identify quick wins, and set a clear plan.
