About Janet
I’ve been teaching and tutoring with expertise and compassion for 27 years. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and a Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certificate, both from the University of Toronto (which is ranked in the top 46 globally in 50 subject categories, more than any other university in the world). I understand the science of language and the art of communication. I’ve taught learners in North America, Europe, and Asia, and what I’ve learned is that no matter where you come from or where you're going, you deserve to be heard and understood with clarity and respect. I’ve lived in five countries on three continents and learned 6 languages, so I understand what it’s like to learn a foreign language.

I learned German while living in Germany for 6.5 years, where I learned to speak with near-native fluency and almost no accent. I have a degree in linguistics so I can clearly explain and break down foreign sounds and complex grammar rules, making it easier for you to use and understand them. I can tutor anyone at any level but I really enjoy teaching beginners and pass on my love of the German language to those just starting out. Whether you're in high school, university/college, or wanting to learn some phrases for travel, I can help.
