About Kilian
Hi! I am a first year undergraduate at Oxford University, studying English and Classics. I love my subjects, and find it a real shame that the humanities are being increasingly sidelined. For this reason I am passionate about sharing my interests in language and literature with others, while my experiences with the Oxford tutorial system have shown me the power of one-on-one teaching in fostering young minds. My approach to teaching is formed by two major influences: my exposure to the Oxford tutorial system, and my experience as a director in student theatre. Both favour intellectual collaboration and patient communication over top-down teaching, and this is an approach which my literature tutoring will reflect. I want to interest students even if I am helping them in a subject with which they are struggling and challenge them to develop their own ideas. In terms of language, my qualifications speak for themselves. Winning Winchester College's prestigious Goddard Scholarship in Latin and Greek before studying at Oxford gives me a broad understanding of Classical grammar and syntax and how best to fit it for the translation of exam passages, allowing me to adapt my teaching style to the individual needs of my tutees. I am particularly well-suited to offering Oxbridge interview coaching for literary subjects; my own interviews are only a year and a half ago and I still have extensive notes about my process, while my current immersion in Oxford life alerts me to the qualities which tutors are at this moment looking for in prospective students. My lessons would include in-depth personal statement and written work reviews, pointers to further reading, and insider knowledge on the kind of questions you will be asked at interview. Offering Lessons on: - UK uni admissions for humanities, Oxbridge in particular - English, Latin, and Ancient Greek language tutoring, whether for UK qualifications (GCSE to A-Level) or independent study - Literature tutoring in all of the above languages, also GCSE to A-level, or for independent study - Oxford trained essay writing skills & academic prose
