About Mitchell
I am a 17 year old, year 13 IB student at Scots College Wellington. Taking the IB diploma has opened my eyes to the wonderful world of academia and lit my passion for teaching and learning, particularly in mathematics. Outside of school I also take an undergraduate level mathematics course with the University of Canterbury named MATH198 which led me to really delve deep into my love for mathematics.
Outside of my studies I captain my school's rowing team and am the deputy head of my school house. I also enjoy martial arts and playing the piano in my spare time. A few of my extracurricular awards are listed below:

- Australian Mathematics Competition Distinction Award 2024/25
I am a driven and dedicated student and teacher who likes engaging with like-minded driven people. I am passionate about my interests and do my best to excel in whatever I pursue, and I love teaching and sharing knowledge, hoping to help others discover their love for their studies and more too.

A typical lesson with me would focus on student-learning. My approach to tutoring is letting the student lead the lesson instead of hurling information at them, as every student learns differently. I have tutored several peers, students and friends/family and have found this to be the most enjoyable and effective way of approaching tutoring.
My services are aimed at students aged 5-18, and am capable of teaching a vast range of topics from basic arithmetic to undergraduate linear algebra. My lessons can range anywhere from 30-90 minutes, however here is an example of a 60 minute lesson with me:
We will spend the first ~30 minutes of the lesson focusing on understanding and conceptualizing mathematical concepts, then the next ~15 minutes on problems which I help the student with, finishing with ~15 minutes of independent questions where I provide minimal assistance to the student, to encourage practical and independent study methods. Though I prefer to use this lesson structure, it is not fixed, and I am happy to work through lessons however the student/parent sees fit.
