About Maya
I’m a friendly, enthusiastic and reliable tutor with experience working with children both academically and through volunteering. I have previously tutored Maths during the school holidays and spent two years supporting younger students with reading, which taught me how to adapt my approach to different abilities and personalities. I also founded my school’s Law Society and took part in debating, experiences which strengthened my communication skills and my ability to explain ideas clearly. I really enjoy seeing students grow to love learning - and making mistakes!

I take a proactive and personalised approach to tutoring, balancing each student’s individual needs with the requirements of their exam specification. Before lessons, I prepare targeted lesson plans and encourage students to send me any areas they are struggling with. I also identify gaps myself through their work and use these to plan future sessions.
For Maths, I create method sheets, work through questions with the student, and then progress to independent and problem-solving questions to ensure they can apply the topic confidently.
For English and Spanish, I focus on essay technique, structure and timed practice, developing clear approaches students can adapt to different questions. In Spanish, I also use focused grammar and skills-based lessons; for speaking, for example, I use conversation to identify weaknesses and then build future lessons around them.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes and are continuously adapted as the student progresses.
