About Isabel

I am a second-year medical student living in Hobart, who is passionate about languages and literature. After graduating college with an ATAR of 99.85 (majoring in English, Philosophy, Astrophysics and Chemistry), I took a gap year in 2019 to live in France and work as an au pair (tutoring children in English). Since then, UTAS has recruited me numerous times for different peer support opportunities to help first-year students with essay-writing and study tips, so I am well-qualified as a knowledgeable and enthusiastic tutor.

About the lesson

My teaching method is about nurturing a confident and engaged student, and their interest in whatever topic I am tutoring. I believe that students will only truly excel when they are listened to, and when their personal strengths and points for development are encouraged warmly and passionately. I therefore base my tutoring around a personalised approach, where I actively engage in what the student is interested in and needs support in.

When it comes to learning and developing a second language, I strongly believe in a notion of practice makes perfect, so I aim at integrating different skills of written and verbal production and comprehension, in order to foster a deep understanding of the language. Language should also be fun and interactive, being inextricably tied to the French culture. Therefore, in my tutoring I like to bring in my experience of France and what it means to be French, to put knowledge into a fun and practical setting.
