About Alexander
Hi! My name is Alex and I'm a 21 year old guy studying for the final year of my physics degree at the University of St Andrews with a specialisation in computational and condensed matter physics
Since a very young age I have been passionate about physics and maths, the language of its expression. I have always felt it a crying shame that not everyone sees the beauty in these wonderful subjects. I take great joy in helping people understand some of the incredible mechanics at the heart of the universe and seeing maths as something more than moving numbers and letters around on a page.
I have 4 years of tutoring experience at GCSE level. Some of this was voluntary work as part of a scheme run by my Sixth Form to help struggling GCSE students.

Maths and physics get a reputation for being very difficult but this is only because people expect it to be. By maintaining a positive attitude and expecting good results from a student, often those good results can be achieved and then some.
Many students are plagued by "maths blindness" brought about by panic at the sight of an equation. Once they start to believe in themselves a daunting maths problem ceases to be a problem but a puzzle.
Of course self confidence isn't everything. I always found that a problem with schools is that a method is taught rather than an understanding. By getting a student to understand what it is they're actually doing they can be much more reliable at problem solving and can apply their knowledge flexibly to new areas or unseen problems.
