About Franklin

9 years of teaching guitar have shown me that the most effective learning happens when students feel seen, heard, and supported. I’ve taught students ranging from absolute beginners to advanced players looking to refine their sound, and I’ve always placed a strong emphasis on meeting students where they are. My approach combines solid technical instruction with a flexible and responsive teaching style. We start with the fundamentals—chord shapes, rhythm, scales, and timing—and build up to more advanced topics like music theory, song arrangement, and improvisation. What keeps students engaged is learning music that excites them. That’s why I integrate songs they already love into lessons, helping them connect emotionally to the material. I also believe in teaching students how to problem-solve, so when they hit a plateau, they know how to work through it thoughtfully and efficiently. A particularly rewarding experience was guiding a student through writing, recording, and performing their first original song—a process that built not only skill but pride and independence. Alongside technical growth, I focus on the personal development that music supports: patience, resilience, creativity, and confidence. I strive to create a learning space that’s comfortable, motivating, and full of possibility.

My teaching approach is built around the idea that every guitarist has their own rhythm—both musically and in how they learn. That’s why I begin with listening: to your goals, your musical background, your pace, and your preferred learning style. From there, I craft a lesson path that’s grounded in essentials but tailored for relevance. Whether you’ve never played a note or you’ve been strumming chords for years, we’ll identify the gaps and build from there.

I start with key fundamentals—good hand positioning, rhythm stability, clean chord voicings—but I connect those right away to musical examples. We’ll use real songs to explore how music theory, technique, and creative decision-making intersect. I use a range of teaching tools—chord maps, videos, interactive exercises, slow-tempo practice loops, songwriting prompts—depending on how you process best. Feedback is a constant loop, not a one-way street; I ask what’s feeling easy, what’s feeling hard, and what excites you most about the music you’re learning.

Along the way, I introduce you to the habits of successful musicians: consistent short practice, breaking through plateaus, developing performance confidence, and applying your knowledge in real settings. We study artists you admire—not just what they play, but how they got there and what they practiced. This method doesn’t just prepare you to play—it prepares you to grow long after the lessons end.
