About Austyn

Hello! My name is Austyn Cross. I’m a passionate educator with a degree in Secondary Social Studies Education from Anderson University SC, graduating this May. In the fall, I’ll be teaching 7th-grade World Geography, and I’m excited to bring that same enthusiasm to my tutoring! I have extensive experience in education, including multiple practicum and clinical placements, full-time student teaching, and years of tutoring students of all ages. I’m also trained in literacy instruction and supporting students with learning disabilities. Additionally, I have passed the Social Studies Content and Interpretation Praxis test as well as the Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) Praxis test, demonstrating my expertise in both subject knowledge and effective teaching strategies. I love social studies because it teaches us who we are, where we came from, and how we can better serve one another. Teaching allows me to share that passion with students while building their confidence and self-efficacy. My favorite moments are when students work hard to understand something, and suddenly, it clicks—the "lightbulb" moment! Above all, I strive to create a fun, engaging, and supportive learning environment that meets students where they are and helps them grow. I can't wait to help you on your learning journey!

About the lesson

My tutoring approach is centered around making social studies engaging, relevant, and memorable! My lessons are interactive, incorporating engaging activities and virtual resources to keep students actively involved in their learning. I also use storytelling, real-life examples, and connections to other subjects to bring history, geography, and civics to life.

I believe that every student is capable of success, and I provide a supportive, encouraging environment where they can grow in confidence. Through modeling, scaffolding, and personalized guidance, I help students develop a deeper understanding of the material while building critical thinking skills. My goal is to make learning an enjoyable journey, not just a task!
