Academic credibility you can rely on

I hold a Master of Science in Oncology from the University of Oxford and a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry (2:1) from the University of Liverpool. That means every topic on the GCSE and A-Level Biology syllabus — from cell division and genetic inheritance to homeostasis, immunity, and ecosystems — sits well within my academic foundation. In fact, my postgraduate research goes far beyond the school curriculum, so when a student asks a challenging question, I don't just know the textbook answer — I understand the science behind it.

In my professional role, I translate complex clinical and scientific data into clear, accessible insights for doctors, researchers, and non-specialist audiences every day. A structured, professional approach

I treat tutoring with the same rigour I bring to my research work:

Every lesson is planned in advance around the student's specific syllabus, weak areas, and upcoming exams.
I use a digital whiteboard and annotated diagrams so students can revisit visual explanations after the session.
Progress is tracked session by session, with clear goals set at the start and reviewed at the end.

Homework and follow-up tasks are set only when appropriate — never as busywork, always to reinforce that week's learning.
All sessions are delivered on a stable internet connection with professional video and audio setup — no dropped calls, no distractions.

Who I work best with

I'm especially effective with students who feel overwhelmed by Biology's volume of content, those who "kind of get it" but can't quite express answers in exam format, and high-achievers pushing for a top grade. I tutor KS3, GCSE (all major boards: AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC), and A-Level students across the UK.

About the lesson

My tutoring is built on one core principle: biology makes sense when you understand the "why," not just memorise the "what." Too many students treat GCSE and A-Level Biology as a list of facts to cram. I teach them to see the underlying mechanisms — once you grasp how a cell signals, why natural selection favours a trait, or what actually happens at a synapse, the facts fall into place naturally.

Techniques and teaching methodology

Every session follows a simple, repeatable structure:
Diagnose the gap — We start by pinpointing exactly what the student doesn't understand. Not "I'm bad at biology," but "I don't get how the nephron concentrates urine" or "I keep mixing up mitosis and meiosis." Specific problems get specific fixes.
Break it down visually — I use diagrams, flowcharts, and digital whiteboards to map out processes step by step. Biology is visual; a well-drawn cycle beats a paragraph of text every time.

Active recall, not passive reading — I pause frequently to ask the student to explain the concept back to me in their own words. If they can teach it, they've got it. This also builds exam confidence.

Past paper practice — We apply knowledge immediately to real exam questions under timed conditions. I teach how to decode command words (describe, explain, evaluate), structure 6-mark answers, and pick up method marks even when they're unsure.
Spaced revision planning — I help students build a realistic revision timetable that spaces topics out over weeks, not days before the exam.
