For school exams there are 2 stages: building a very strong understanding and sense of intuition, then do lots of practice questions for the test. People are taught facts usually, but in mathematics and physics understanding is key. For the MAT there are many tricks and techniques I used to get 73%, while the average for successful applicants in my year was 68%.
