About Sarah

Hi! I am a Masters student reading Greek and Latin Languages and Literature at the University of Oxford. I earned an Honours BA in Renaissance Studies, specialising in British Literature, particularly Shakespeare. I previously taught English at university level in Japan for 3 months, and assisted students preparing for the TOEFL and IELTS exams. I also led an after-school Latin class for 10-12 year-old students at East Harlem School, Exodus House in New York in the autumn of 2019.

I am currently available to teach in-person in Oxford or in London (on weekends), but in light of the current situation I am more than happy to offer lessons online. I'm also happy to offer tutoring regularly, or on a one-time basis (before an exam, for a specific topic, etc.) - please contact me and we can discuss your goals.

About the lesson

I am happy to offer lessons at GCSE, A-level and undergraduate level in English Language/Literature and Latin. I tailor my lessons to each individual student or group's needs, so that every student gets the most out of his or her time. Since I know from my own experience how busy students already are, I prefer to give only minimal 'homework' assignments between lessons so that students can focus on mastering a manageable amount of material. I also aim to give students as much structure as possible through lesson plans and materials, so that students know exactly what's coming and have a firm grasp on what we've covered, while remaining flexible for questions and revision wherever needed.

Nika is clearly a very intelligent and eager learner. For the English Literature paper, the most important skills for her to develop going forward will be reading comprehension, especially for challenging authors such as Shakespeare, and timed essay writing. I definitely think she is up for the task.

Sophia and Panagioti seem excited to start reading! There's lots of ground to cover with technical terms and skills, but for the moment the focus is on getting started reading, and learning how to think about literature.
