About Cathy

I’ve taught for most of my life and enjoy encouraging people to improve and excel. I have also seen my own three children through school and university and know at recent first hand the pressures of an unfinished essay or the misery of an exam you don't feel quite ready for.
I have fluent French and a working academic knowledge of Italian, Spanish and German, languages which are useful in the study of art history at a higher level. I am currently writing an introductory book on modern sculpture and continue to be an academic researcher.
I am also teaching courses at Courtauld in 2026-27 on The History of Modern Sculpture, and another on the development of Christian Art, from the 3rd to the 17th Century.

About the lesson

Online or in person lessons can be planned entirely to each student's requirements. I live in Chiswick and teach from home but I'm also happy to travel within the M25, or to the M4 corridor if required. I can advise on essay planning and writing, and have a wealth of art history knowledge if revision of particular subject areas is needed. Sessions will usually last an hour, though could do longer if we both have the stamina! My specialism is twentieth century art but I have also decent knowledge of most other periods in the Western Art canon. I also taught Religious Studies up to A' level for many years, after my first degree in Theology at Oxford, so I can help with RS revision or essay planning. I have contributed to exhibitions in major museums, and have written for exhibition catalogues and arts journals, so can help with extended writing, from A' level essays to undergraduate dissertations and beyond.
