About Mark
I studied at a state school in Derbyshire before achieving a first class degree from Oxford in history and Spanish. I attribute my success to the inspiring work of teachers and tutors from my childhood, and it is this that gave me my passion for education. I now have over five years tutoring experience across a range of subjects (history, modern languages, English, university applications). I have worked both privately and with schools as part of the government National Tutoring Programme. I have a recent enhanced DBS check and have undergone safeguarding training. My favourite part of the job is hearing from happy students on results day.

I offer history tuition for GCSE and A-Level students. I have 5 years of experience teaching history, encompassing all major exam boards (AQA, OCR, Edexcel etc.). I also offer support for history admission tests at top private schools and Oxbridge. I have a track record of proven results, including several A* results at A-Level. The best history students don't just know the facts: they also have a killer essay technique that impresses examiners. That's why I love bringing in essay questions and planning answers together. History involves a lot of dates, people and events. I'm a fan of using mind maps and timelines to give this content some structure and make links between them. I encourage students to use visual revision to aid their memory.
