About Gena
I start my first interactions with students rooted in the importance of getting to know them individually before academically. It is important for me to share my interests with my students and for my students to share their interests with me. My education does not focus only on leadership in the academic world, but more importantly leadership and independence in the real world. I have taught over 2,000 students in Baltimore City public schools, in my class and in small groups. I am passionate about finding the trick or accommodation that will help my students with a topic or skill that is challenging for them. I know that every student has the skills to shine, and sometimes they need me to guide them to success!

I utilize a mutli-sensory approach to teaching phonics and phonemic awareness.
I am trained in Wilson and Ortin Gillingham systematic approach to teaching reading to early readers.
I have experience teaching classes in Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students, including students with IEPs and Multilingual Learners.
I model skills and practice skills with students with hands-on approach, even through virtual instruction.
I am proficient in teaching number subitizing, number bonds, introducing addition and subtraction through the thousands place.
I focus on individualizing instruction to student likes and dislikes and ground my work in knowing the strongest form of learning is rooted in relationships.
