About Emilia
Who am I?
Hi, I'm Emilia, 21, and I'm studying opera singing at the HMTMH (Hannover University of Music, Drama and Media). I originally come from the music city of Leipzig, where I grew up in a very musical household. I started playing the violin at an early age and sung at the opera children's choir. I was always drawn to the stage and was always very enthusiastic about theater. When the genre of musicals and opera became more attractive to me, I decided to make singing the mainpoint of my life and began to take professional singing lessons with my wonderful teacher at the age of 14. I have now achieved my goal of passing the aptitude test at a university.
As every singer knows, I too have fought my way through the ups and downs of the never-ending vocal process, developing my own methods and symbols that I would love to pass on to you.
Of course, I am not yet a trained singer or singing teacher, but I feel the urge to pass on my fascination and knowledge of this wonderful complex of the voice. I have already worked with a few students and had a lot of fun doing it!
Even if you may not be aware of it, the teacher also learns a lot about his own voice by teaching and explaining:) So we are a mutually supportive team;)

For me, it is always important to build a trusting and good relationship in singing lessons, because the voice is something very intimate and can only develop with fun and enjoyment. That is why I always try to approach my students individually and without any pressure. Respect for the first singing lesson is normal, but you will see what you can achieve if you
In my lessons you can expect:
- a technical development/further training of your voice (What are registers? How do I mix them? How do I find the sound of MY voice? How do I place vowels? How do I make singing easier?)
- How do I breathe properly? (What was that about the support again?)
- Work on a repertoire that you choose (or I can, if you want;) Since I am most familiar in classical music, I would love if you bring art songs, arias or folk songs, I also like to work with you on musical repertoire, which largely involves the same technique and is my second 'genre home'. I am also open to pop songs, but in my experience I cannot help on the same level:)
- Interpretation (what does the music want to tell me, what does the role/the car/the composer feel and how can I implement this in my interpretation)
- lots of fun and enthusiasm for operas/musicals;)
Don't worry, it sounds like a lot, it's also a complex process, but you don't have to master it alone... We'll do it together;)
How does my lesson work?
As usual, you arrive and we chat briefly about how we are doing (your mental health can have a big impact on your voice, so sometimes it's not a bad idea to talk about it briefly beforehand, but you don't have to, of course. It's not for nothing that they say singing lessons are real therapy sessions, hehe)
Once we've done that, I like to start with a little body warm-up. It's not just the larynx that sings, but the whole body. Relaxation is especially important for breathing! Once we're somewhat warm, we'll start with easy vocal or breathing exercises, which then progress to various technical exercises depending on what your voice needs and what we want to work on, before we can work on the repertoire. If time allows, we could also do a vocal cool-down, whatever you feel like.
