About Nekka

I am an Ontario-certified teacher with classroom and small-group experience supporting students in Grades 4–12. I bring a calm, structured, and student-centered approach to tutoring, with a strong understanding of curriculum expectations and how students learn best.

My professional background allows me to quickly identify gaps in understanding and address them using clear explanations and effective strategies. I prioritize accuracy, consistency, and ethical teaching practices, and I approach tutoring with the same level of care and professionalism I bring to the classroom.

I understand that confidence plays a major role in student success, especially in math. I create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and building understanding at their own pace. Lessons are thoughtfully planned, well-structured, and responsive to each student’s needs.

Families can expect clear communication, reliability, and a focus on meaningful progress. My goal is to help students develop both strong math skills and the confidence to apply them independently.

About the lesson

MY APPROACH:
I use a structured, step-by-step teaching approach that breaks down math concepts into manageable parts. Lessons focus on understanding the why behind the math, not just memorizing procedures. I model strategies, guide students through examples, and gradually release responsibility so students gain confidence and independence.

I also use visual supports, clear language, and real-world examples to make abstract concepts more accessible—especially for students who feel overwhelmed or anxious about math.

TYPICAL LESSON:
Each session is tailored to the student’s needs but generally includes:
- A brief check-in and review of prior learning
- Explicit instruction of the target concept using clear examples
- Guided practice with immediate feedback
- Independent practice to build confidence
- A short wrap-up to reinforce key ideas and next steps

Lessons are paced carefully and adjusted in real time based on how the student is responding.

WHAT SETS ME APART:
As a classroom teacher, I understand curriculum expectations, common student misconceptions, and effective intervention strategies. I am patient, supportive, and focused on helping students feel capable—not rushed or judged. I also have experience supporting diverse learners, including students who benefit from additional structure, clarity, or language support.

My goal is not just to improve math skills, but to help students feel more confident, calm, and capable when approaching math.
