About Sophie

I like cats, biking, camping, swimming, music, theater and dance performances. I come from Versailles in France, I have been living in Canada for 15 years both in Edmonton and Ottawa.
Walking alongside students en route to mastering the French language is mon grand plaisir! With me as your tutor, it is a light, fun-filled adventure that students eager to try their best are invited to participate in.
A whiteboard and 2 color markers are the supplies required for our class.

About the lesson

We will work using songs, tongue twisters and classic sayings for literacy and building vocabulary. We will also use Ask-me-about Show-and-share games for sentence building.
For students looking to learn how to read, I use the Jolly Phonics method, a child-centered, multi-sensory synthetic phonics program that teaches children to read and write using letter sounds.

As for numeracy, I like to use manipulatives (Base 10, Cuisenaire rods, etc.) and fun seek-and-find challenges.

Every lesson follows a familiar structure using a Google Slide that evolves slightly with every class.

For older grades, I continue working on reading skills emphasizing phonic awareness, fluency and punctuation, as well as French grammar and conjugation basics as per the curriculum.

Specific lesson plans can also be offered to students who have identified areas they would like to work on.
