About Aryan

Hi, I’m Aryan, an Astrophysics PhD researcher and Maths and Physics tutor based in Melbourne.

I have studied and conducted research internationally across Japan, Italy, the USA and Australia. I completed my BSc in Physics at Nagoya University in Japan and my MSc in Astrophysics and Cosmology at the University of Padova in Italy. I also completed research at Boston University before beginning my PhD in Astrophysics at Swinburne University of Technology.

Throughout my studies, I have been fortunate to receive several competitive scholarships, including the T. Banaji Scholarship in Japan, the Galileo Scholarship in Italy, and an Australian Government HDR Scholarship for my PhD.

I teach high-school Maths and Physics, with a particular focus on VCE and IB students. My academic background means I work with advanced mathematics and physics regularly, but what matters most to me as a tutor is being able to explain those ideas simply.

I enjoy teaching because I know how different it feels when a difficult concept finally makes sense. I don't want students to simply memorise a formula or a set of steps for one particular question. I want them to understand why the method works, recognise when to use it, and eventually be able to tackle unfamiliar problems independently.

Whether a student is struggling with the fundamentals, aiming for a strong exam result, or looking for more challenging material, I adapt my teaching to their current level and goals.

About the lesson

My lessons focus on understanding first, then applying that understanding to increasingly challenging problems.

I don't believe effective Maths or Physics tutoring should consist of watching a tutor solve questions for an hour. I want students to actively think, explain their reasoning, make mistakes, identify patterns and gradually become more independent problem-solvers.

A typical lesson begins by identifying what the student currently understands and where the difficulty is coming from. I then explain the concept intuitively, often using diagrams, real-life examples or simpler related problems before introducing the formal mathematics.

Once the idea is clear, we work through questions together. I gradually reduce my guidance so that the student learns how to decide what approach to use rather than relying on prompts from me.

For VCE and IB students, I also place a strong emphasis on exam-style thinking: recognising what a question is testing, dealing with unfamiliar problems, showing working clearly, avoiding common mistakes, managing time and checking whether an answer makes sense.

Depending on the student's needs, I can also provide:

• Step-by-step worked solutions
• Feedback on mistakes and weak areas
• Revision and exam preparation plans

I teach VCE Specialist Mathematics, Mathematical Methods and Physics, as well as IB Mathematics and Physics. I also work with Year 9–10 students who want to strengthen their foundations or move towards more advanced Maths and Physics.

Every student learns differently, so the exact structure changes depending on their level, school curriculum and goals.

Details

My standard rates are:

• Year 9–10: $80 AUD per hour
• Year 11–12, including VCE and IB: $90 AUD per hour
• University Year 1–2 Mathematics: $100 AUD per hour

Lessons are conducted online through Zoom or Google Meet.

The hourly rate includes more than the lesson itself. Where appropriate, I also prepare personalised questions, assignments, revision material and exam-style practice based on what the student is currently studying.

For students preparing for assessments or final exams, I can create targeted revision exercises and mock exams designed around their syllabus and areas of weakness.

There are no additional charges for online teaching materials that I prepare as part of regular lessons.

My aim is to make each lesson specific to the student rather than using the same worksheets or lesson plan for everyone.
