About Emma

I am a soon-to-be graduate of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama where I have been studying for my masters in Performance for the past two years. My background is in performance and outreach, and I have worked with people from all backgrounds in a wide range of musical workshop settings. I have been teaching privately since graduating from university, and have gained valuable experience in tailoring my tuition depending on the needs of my students, whilst maintaining a 100% pass rate. I currently co-lead music workshops for children with additional needs and have had to tailor my approach to be adaptable and entirely child-centred. This style of delivery has become vital in my own teaching practice, as I believe tailoring sessions to the student whilst providing appropriate challenges. Prior to this I taught students ranging from 8 to 60 years old and have developed a teaching style that is both empathetic and engaging.

About the lesson

I believe learning an instrument should be a fun and challenging project for anyone, and am a firm believer in basing my lessons around the desires and aspirations of my students, whether they are working towards grades or auditions, or just want to learn for fun! I am happy to teach complete beginners all the way up to grade 8+ on the clarinet, and up to grade 5 in saxophone and music theory. I know all students learn in different ways and at different paces, and so will tailor my teaching to best suit their needs. I have experience teaching young children as well as adults, and am therefore very flexible in my approach. Lessons will generally begin with a warm-up (including scales, arpeggios and long notes), which will help to familiarise myself and the student with their playing, whilst gearing us up to tackle repertoire or graded pieces for exams. In the current climate I know many of us are looking to learn new skills, and will be available for the foreseeable future to teach lessons online, retaining the same levels of focus and professionalism that are present in face-to-face teaching.
