About Siobhan

Hello! I'm Siobhan, a tutor and an experimental research artist based in Brooklyn, NY.

I have a degree from NYU in Nutrition/Dietetics, Philosophy, and Spanish, because I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life at age 20.

I eventually figured out that I really just enjoy finding new ways of expressing myself and connecting with other people, and language exchange is one of the most universal ways to do so.

After going through my own process of learning Spanish at 19, I knew language acquisition would always be an interest of mine. Since then, I've gone on to teach both ESL and Spanish in a variety of settings, including: NYC public schools, MOIA NYC, and private tutoring.

My guarantee for working together is that you'll achieve your goals. My hope is that it'll be a lot of fun on the way.

About the lesson

I urge the most timid, discouraged, and frustrated students to book a trial lesson with me. I know firsthand what it's like to struggle in a subject, and feel as though no one can properly explain something to you. When you work with me, each lesson is tailored to address your specific learning styles and strengths, so that you're relating to new information in an organic way.

Language learning really does open up other worlds and ways of thinking about life, but in order to get there, we have to re-experience every age we've ever been: in that new language. It can feel very awkward, as an adult, to be restricted to the vocabulary and grammar of a clumsy toddler, but I encourage my students (and myself) to play around with that feeling. I promise we'll get you to your desired level of proficiency; it's just much more enjoyable to laugh at ourselves along the way.
