About Simona

I'm Simona, an Italian jazz singer and vocal coach based in NYC, and my goal is to help you discover your unique voice while having fun with music! I've had the amazing opportunity to perform at iconic venues like Dizzy's Club in NYC, Blues Alley in Washinton DC, Black Cat in San Francisco, Blue Note Milano, Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, and even Expo Dubai 2020 with the Italian National Jazz Orchestra. Now, I'm bringing all that passion for performing and teaching to the vibrant New York music scene! In 2022, I was awarded a Fulbright scholarship and earned my second Master's in Jazz Performance at City College of New York. Whether you're a beginner or more advanced, we'll work on vocal techniques, pop, rock, and improvisation and grow your love for singing together. If music is calling you, let's connect and start this journey!

JULY CLASSES ONLINE ONLY

Hey! I’m Simona, an Italian jazz singer and vocal coach based in NYC. My lessons are all about creating a NO JUDGMENT ZONE where you can explore your voice, connect with your breath, and allow yourself to make mistakes, grow, and have fun! The goal is to help you discover your unique voice and build your confidence while enjoying the process. Whether you’re into jazz, pop, rock, or Italian music, we’ll work together to improve your technique in a supportive and relaxed environment. Here’s what you can expect from our lessons: 1. WARM-UP We’ll start each session with targeted vocal exercises to get your voice and body ready for singing. This helps improve breath control, tone quality, and vocal range. 2. TECHNIQUE FOCUS Depending on your goals, we’ll dive into key areas like breath support, pitch accuracy, expanding your vocal range, or improving vocal agility. We’ll work on finding your natural voice while enhancing your technical foundation. 3. REPERTOIRE WORK Together, we’ll choose songs you enjoy—whether it’s jazz, pop, rock, or Italian songs—and apply the techniques we’ve been practicing. We’ll focus on interpretation, style, and making each song your own. 4. PERFORMANCE PRACTICE If you’re interested in performing, we can work on stage presence, emotional expression, and connecting with your audience. We can simulate a performance or audition environment to help you feel more comfortable on stage. 5. FEEDBACK & GOAL SETTING At the end of each lesson, we’ll review your progress, talk about what’s working, and set goals for the next session. My approach is always positive and constructive, so you’ll leave feeling motivated and excited to keep learning! What sets my lessons apart: - NO JUDGMENT ZONE: You’re free to experiment, make mistakes, and learn without pressure. - PERSONALIZED LESSONS: Each session is tailored to your specific needs, no matter your level—whether you’re just starting out or preparing for an audition. - HOLISTIC APPROACH: We’ll work on vocal techniques, breath control, and artistic expression, combining classical training with contemporary styles. Who are my lessons for? - ALL LEVELS: From beginners discovering their voice to advanced singers looking to refine their skills. - ALL GENRES: Whether you’re into pop, rock, jazz, or Italian music. - AUDITION PREP: For students preparing for college auditions or other competitive performances. Ready to start this exciting journey? Let’s connect and discover your voice together!

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favorite instrument?

I've always felt a connection to my voice-it's been my companion for as long as I can remember. Singing wasn't just something I loved; it felt like an extension of who I was, even as a little girl.
  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

Jazz is my endless loop. Its variety and depth mean I never get tired of it, and if I had to choose one artist, it would be Carmen McRae. Her phrasing, emotion, and style captivate me every time.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

I'd love to teach an advanced course on scat singing. It's a thrilling way to improvise and tell your story through music. Pairing it with an intensive vocal technique program would be a challenge, but one that could transform any student's skills.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I have so much respect for brass players. Instruments like the trumpet and trombone require incredible breath control, precision, and stamina. They're as much about technique as they are about passion and perseverance.
  • What are your keys to success?

Authenticity is everything. Be yourself unapologetically. Your artistry shines through naturally when you stay true to who you are.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favorite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Imagine sitting with Dexter Gordon at a bar, listening to his larger-than-life stories and soulful wisdom. Then, Ornella Vanoni joins the table-her wit and charisma would have us laughing over cocktails. Finally, Ella Fitzgerald walks in, and I sit in awe, soaking in her timeless tales and effortless grace.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

The first time I sang with a big band is a moment I'll never forget. It was a concert at the Milan Conservatory called Cartoons in Jazz. From the moment the instruments started playing during rehearsal, the sheer power of the sound swept me away. In that instant, I knew-this was my path, my calling.
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

Empathy is my secret ingredient. I take the time to step into my students' shoes, understand their struggles, and guide them in a supportive and inspiring way. I aim to be the kind of teacher I always wished I had-someone who listens, encourages, and celebrates every small victory.
