About Sean
Hello, I’m Sean. I have ten years' experience teaching English in a range of settings. Years ago, I taught English as a second language in Tokyo, Japan - that was quite an adventure. Then I returned to the UK and taught in a range of mainstream schools: an all-girls’ Catholic school, a mainstream that pioneered with edutech, and a prestigious London school. Then I became head of English and Reading at an inner city London school that caters to small groups of students with complex needs centred around their SEMH EHCPs. Now, drawing upon my years of experience, I offer my services to students that are educated from home.

I specialise in tailoring and adapting learning to meet each students’ needs, identifying and improving reading and writing gaps, and guiding students towards exam confidence - especially those with low self-esteem, attention deficit, or anxiety.
My lessons structure is usually as follows: Hook - New information - Reading - Guided practice - Independent practice - Set assignment
Private lessons can be 30 minutes or 60 minutes, and group lessons last for 60 minutes. I set longer independent writing tasks for students to complete outside of the lesson so we can make use of every second of tutoring time.
My teaching is based on expert subject knowledge, clear structures and routines, personalised scaffolding, and calm and relaxed behaviour strategies from years of working in high-support settings. My sessions are warm and patient, and I treat students with compassion and empathy. Students often make rapid progress because I focus on small, achievable marginal gains that build into long-term success.
