About Atiqa
I’m a female vocalist, born and raised in London, with 12 years of intensive training and a post-diploma qualification in Hindustani Vocal music. Throughout my training, I performed regularly in group and duet settings, gaining experience in both classical and collaborative contexts. In 2020, I experienced a mental health crisis related to undiagnosed neurodivergence within my household, which led to a pause in my musical journey. That experience profoundly shaped how I view learning, wellbeing, and creative expression. In 2024, I co-founded two initiatives with my sister—Sprinkle of Swara and Choreodiverse—which celebrate neurodiversity through Hindustani arts. Both initiatives have a Creative branch, where we develop experimental music and dance content, and an Academy branch, where we offer neuroaffirming tuition and wellbeing experiences. As a neurodivergent person myself, my own journey navigating traditional Hindustani vocal education informs every aspect of how I teach. I’m passionate about creating inclusive, flexible learning spaces where all students—especially those who may have felt excluded or misunderstood—can engage with this beautiful art form in a way that feels accessible and empowering. I believe music should be a source of joy, expression, and connection, not stress or pressure. I’d describe myself as easygoing, optimistic, and open-hearted. I love learning instruments— I can play the harmonium and guitar is my current focus, and I’d place myself around the early intermediate level. Outside of music, I’m also deeply passionate about mathematics, hold a doctorate in the subject, and am currently also an online Mathematics Tutor. Looking ahead, I aspire to grow as an independent singer-songwriter, blending Bollywood and Indian classical influences into original music.

I offer neuroaffirming tuition in Hindustani Vocal (also referred to as North Indian classical vocal), which helps people express themselves through music, feel joy and playfulness in sound, and feel seen, heard and valued in their musical journey. By neuroaffirming, I mean a space where all neurotypes are welcomed and supported. Traditional approaches to teaching Hindustani Vocal often rely on unspoken social norms and assumptions—such as ease of verbal communication or close personal rapport with the teacher—that can exclude or disadvantage some learners, in particular neurodivergent learners. Everyone deserves the opportunity to learn the music they are passionate about, without having to compromise their mental health in the process. In my lessons, I aim to honour diverse ways of learning and interacting, and I adapt my teaching to meet each student where they are, to the best of my ability. In particular, I offer flexible communication options—students can express themselves through voice, chat, writing, or gestures. Cameras and microphones can be on or off, depending on sensory comfort. I provide written lesson summary notes after each session to support memory and processing. Movement, stimming, or doodling are welcome during lessons. Students are encouraged to guide their learning, and I create a non-judgmental space where mistakes and questions are part of the process. I offer an initial free 15-minute meeting to discuss the requirements of the client and any further accessibility needs.
