About Natalia

I have a Bachelor's degree in Education and a Master's degree in Teaching Spanish. I have been teaching for ten years to students from around the world in a school setting and online. I believe that each student is unique with their own potential and I enjoy discovering their skills and seeing what they are capable of.

About the lesson

Each student and their situation is unique. That is why I adapt my lessons to each one of them, depending on their objectives, pace, interests, and needs. Learning a language is a process that includes several components. It is important to cover and include all of them so that the experience is complete and immersive. Perfect! I have had three lessons with Natalia and they have all been exceptional. I also have weekly Spanish lessons in a group setting but the one on one format with Natalia slows everything down and provides targeted learning in areas that I struggle. I am not the fastest learner but Natalia shows immense patience. The online format is seamless, a lot of the class is delivered only in Spanish adopting an immersion style and I really enjoy the interactive worksheets that we do in class and as revision during the week. Natalia is a lovely person who I enjoy spending time with every week improving my spoken Spanish. Highly recommend.

I am a native Spanish speaker.
Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?
Don Quijote has to be one of the most representative fictional characters of Hispanic culture since it was the first modern novel and it was written by Miguel Cervantes. It also happens to be one of the first books I read as a child in school.
Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or expression in the language that you particularly like?
Eating the twelve grapes at midnight on New Year's Eve is one of my favorite traditions because it is so much fun to share with family and friends.
Why does speaking this language matter to you?
Because of the culture and the way that I can express my feelings.
What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?
I believe that whatever the difficulty or challenge for each student may be, having an open and flexible mind to absorb new and different concepts from those of their own language and being consistent, is the best attitude to learn a language.
Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.
In my experience learning English, I had to understand that languages often do not have a literal translation and that making mistakes is better than not trying at all.
How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?
Having the opportunity to travel, live and share with Spanish speaking people from different countries has taught me a lot in understanding regional differences in words, idioms and accents.
