I always try to create a relaxed environment so the student can get the information and asks questions without feel pressure.
At first, we establish a friendly communication through a basic conversation (name, hobbies, recent activities, etc.). This is to have an idea on the level of accent correction that would be needed and in which words and phrases. After that, we will be working of the accent improvement over repetition and reading.
My method is learning by speaking the most neutral accent possible. Which is helpful in any Spanish-speaking country.
