I would never choose a career in education if it had to be boring. I am a strong believer in lessons having to be fun, in order to assimilate and interiorise concepts (for you to be able to use them fluently out of the classroom). I teach concrete topics (real-world issues) rather than abstract ones that do not have any real usage.
Lessons are typically 1 hour long and we will start with a good few minutes of conversation to catch up and see how everything is going. After that I like to focus on a receptive and a productive skill at a time (either listening and speaking, or writing and reading), just to give the other one a break. However it may change depending on the student's requirements.
