About Maria

Hello! I'm Maria, a native European Portuguese speaker from Lisbon. I lived in Portugal for the first 17 years of my life, and my entire family is Portuguese, so I have a strong connection to the language and culture. I am currently studying Politics and International Relations at University College London (UCL) after completing my IGCSEs and the International Baccalaureate (IB) at an international school in Lisbon.
Languages have always played a central role in my life. Studying in both Portuguese and English has given me a unique perspective on language learning and communication across cultures. I enjoy meeting people from different backgrounds and helping them discover not only the Portuguese language but also the customs, history and everyday life in Portugal.
I am friendly, patient and enthusiastic, and I genuinely enjoy seeing my students gain confidence and achieve their goals. Whether you're learning Portuguese for travel, work, family connections or simply out of curiosity, I look forward to helping you make the learning process both enjoyable and rewarding.

About the lesson

My lessons are fully tailored to each student's goals, whether you are learning Portuguese for travel, work, university, family, or simply for personal interest. I am a native speaker of European Portuguese, born and raised in Portugal. My entire family is Portuguese, and I lived in Lisbon for the first 17 years of my life, giving me a deep understanding of the language, culture, and everyday expressions that native speakers actually use.
Having studied at an international school in Lisbon, where I completed my IGCSEs and the International Baccalaureate (IB), and now studying Politics and International Relations at University College London, I understand both the challenges of learning a new language and how to explain Portuguese clearly in English.
Lessons are interactive and adapted to your level, from complete beginners to advanced learners. Depending on your objectives, we can focus on conversation, pronunciation, grammar, reading, writing, or simply becoming more confident speaking Portuguese in real-life situations. I provide personalised materials and regular feedback to ensure steady progress.
