About Haiyun

Nihao! I’m Haiyun, a native Chinese speaker with teaching experience and a deep love for Chinese language and culture. I’ve always loved learning different languages. I’ve learnt some Spanish and French, and I’m currently a beginner in British Sign Language and Japanese. Therefore I really understand how challenging learning a new language can be, especially at the beginning. I used to teach English in China, and I’ve found teaching Chinese, my mother tongue, particularly fascinating and rewarding. I love Chinese culture deeply and enjoy sharing not only the language itself, but also the stories, emotions, and ways of thinking behind it. I also enjoy supporting people’s learning journeys. I know how frustrating language learning can feel when you’re not familiar with the cultural context, so I will try to explain things clearly and patiently, while encouraging students throughout the process. I would consider using materials outside textbook like dramas, TV shows, musicals, and novels, whatever that appeals to you, to assist my teaching, as that’s what helped me most when I was learning other languages myself. I see my students more as learning buddies. We can explore the language together, step by step, in a relaxed, friendly and supportive way.️

About the lesson

Hi everyone, this is Haiyun️ I’m a native Chinese speaker and it’s my 3rd year in the UK. I offer relaxed 1-to-1 or small-group Chinese lessons for beginners, focusing on everyday expressions, pronunciation, and cultural context. We can talk about dramas, TV shows, art or anything you like as teaching materials! The lessons can always be flexible and tailored to your needs. I have experience teaching complete beginners, and as a learner of several languages myself, I totally understand the challenges of starting from scratch. Therefore, I hope to guide you in the journey of exploring this language in a comfortable, engaging and enjoyable way. Let’s do this together!
