• 1) Did you grow up speaking this language? Or were you inspired by a trip abroad, an individual or a certain aspect of the culture?

  Yes, I grew up speaking Macedonian. It is my native language, so I was surrounded by it from childhood—at home, at school, and in everyday life. English came later, mainly through education and media and eventually through my career as an English teacher.

• 2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

  For Macedonian culture, a very emblematic historical figure is Gotse Delchev, who represents the spirit of national identity and struggle. From a fictional/cultural perspective, I would also mention traditional folk characters from Macedonian folklore, which reflect the humor, wisdom, and resilience of the people.

• 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or expression in the language that you particularly like?

  One expression I really like in Macedonian is “Полека, но сигурно” (“Slowly, but surely”). It reflects a calm, patient attitude toward life and learning. I also love traditional greetings and warm expressions that make communication feel very personal and respectful.

• 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

  Speaking Macedonian matters to me because it is part of my identity. It connects me to my family, culture, and history. It also allows me to preserve and pass on traditions while expressing myself naturally and authentically.

• 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

  The main difficulty in learning Macedonian for foreigners is the grammar—especially verb conjugations, cases, and aspect. Pronunciation can also be challenging. What really helps is consistent practice, exposure to native speakers, and learning through real-life situations rather than only textbooks.

• 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

  One valuable memory from my school days is helping classmates who struggled with grammar by creating simple explanations and examples. That experience actually made me realize I enjoy teaching and explaining language, which later became my profession.

• 7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

  Travel has played an important role in improving my English. Visiting different places and communicating with people from various backgrounds helped me become more confident and fluent. It also taught me that language is not only about grammar, but about connection, culture, and understanding different perspectives.
