About Darran

My name is Darran. I come from Dublin in Ireland but am currently living in the city of Cochabamba in Bolivia, South America. I have been working as an English teacher for over 10 years now.

Before my teaching career started I received my degree in English Literature and History of Art and later a Masters Degree in screenwriting. The reason I became a teacher is because I really love the social aspect of teaching. In my career I have taught wonderful students from all over the world and have learned so much about different cultures and lifestyles.

I have taught classes at language institutes in Dublin, Ireland and Cuszco, Peru. I have provided private one-to-one classes in companies and homes in Sao Paolo, where I also worked as a teacher co-ordinator. And I have also worked in a volunteer capacity teaching children in various NGO projects in Nepal and Colombia.

In my free time I like to play guitar, practice yoga, cooking and am crazy for everything to do with movies. I also love to paint portraits in watercolor and run my own online art business selling my paintings.

And because I am living in Bolivia, that means that as well as being a teacher, I am also a language student too, of Spanish. So I know well what it means the challenge and patience necessary of learning a new language!

About the lesson

I have experience in providing lessons in general English, conversation classes, grammar focus as well as exam preparation such as IELTS and the Cambridge exams FCE and CAE. I conduct my classes in a friendly, fun and relaxed environment, but also with a passion and discipline to improve our language abilities. I try to make a personal connection with each student, and always encourage them to never be afraid to make a mistake. Mistakes are just another step to achieving our goals!
