About Maike

Hi! My name is Maike and I am from the south of Germany. I went to university first in London to study Physics and now in Oxford to do a PhD in Engineering Science. I learnt English as my second language and am therefore very familiar with how tricky it can be to get used to a new language! I am therefore eager to help other people in their journey to learn German.

About the lesson

I believe in an active learning approach that involves maximal student engagement. In a typical 1 hour lesson, I will first check the previous knowledge of the student on the topic we are discussing. I then focus on the student speaking as much as possible to boost their confidence, pronunciation, and practice with sentence structures. I have two years of tutoring experience with school students aged 13-15.

Perfect! Maike is very well prepared for lessons and we are moving at an appropriate yet challenging pace. She takes the time to make sure I understand each topic, and there is a good balance of grammar, exercises and speaking during the lessons. I feel as though I am making good progress, and I am enjoying the lessons thoroughly.

Maike not only achieves fantastic grades throughout her studies and is highly academically gifted but is also a great communicator when it comes to difficult concepts. Maike is highly approachable with questions covering all manner of topics, and is very able to explain concepts in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences. I cannot recommend Maike as a tutor highly enough.

Maike truly excels in breaking down complicated theory into more comprehensible bits for me to understand thoroughly. Unlike some others, she also doesn't get angry with you for not understanding and brings about a lot of patience - just what I needed.

I recommend Maike for anyone who can't get their head around literally any topic in physics or maths - she will be your rock to cling on to I promise!
