About Samantha

Hi, nice to meet you, I'm Samantha! I'm a French teacher and tutor from Montréal, Québec. I studied French literature & language at the undergrad and graduate level and my day job is to teach French to folks who work for the government. I love teaching standard French and, of course, Québécois French, which is an entirely different beast!

MON APPROCHE PÉDAGOGIQUE:

I craft dynamic lesson plans that focus on oral skills. This is the area I find to be the most lacking with most of my students, which makes sense, given that it's the one thing you can't improve on alone!

Nonetheless, I target all competencies, using a variety of resources to improve your listening, writing, and reading abilities. I also include specific grammar lessons when I notice you need to add a few tools to your French arsenal. It is all tailored to your strengths and weaknesses.

I rely on a variety of different tools like games, videos, and interactive stories to keep the lessons FUN and USEFUL! I have taught literacy skills, storytelling, grammar, vocabulary and literature.

MON EXPÉRIENCE PROFESSIONNELLE:

In terms of teaching experience, I have taught at all levels: university, CEGEP, high school & elementary school, and I have tutored people of all ages, from children to adults.

I have experience with preparing students for rigorous exams: during the past year, I have been working with Canadian government officials preparing for French exams that will allow them to obtain supervisory roles in the public sector; I have also taught high school students preparing for their final ministerial French exam, a mandatory step to get their high school diploma.

But I have also taught kids of all ages, from 5 year olds to 18 year olds, and when I do, I try to implement even more games to keep the class interesting for them!
