About Amélie

Hi, I’m Amélie, a native French speaker from Belgium and a teacher trained in Belgium. I currently work in education in Calgary.

My teaching background has given me experience working with different learners and adapting explanations to different needs and levels.

For our French sessions, I use that same approach: I adapt what we work on to your goals and to what you find most difficult when speaking. Depending on your needs, we can focus more on pronunciation, vocabulary, sentence structure, recurring mistakes, or simply becoming more comfortable speaking spontaneously.

I want our sessions to give you plenty of time to actually use French. Rather than stopping the conversation for every small mistake, I can identify the corrections that are most useful for you and help you find more natural ways to express yourself.

I can also use English when an explanation needs to be clearer, while keeping French as the main language of our conversations.

If you understand some French but find speaking much harder than listening or reading, my lessons are designed to help you turn that knowledge into real conversation.

Maybe you studied French at school, can follow a conversation or understand what you read but when it’s your turn to answer, you hesitate, search for words or switch back to English...

That’s exactly what I can help you with.

I’m Amélie, a native French speaker from Belgium and a teacher trained in Belgium. I currently work in education in Calgary !

My lessons are designed for adults who already know some French and mainly need one thing: regular opportunities to actually speak it.

During our sessions, you’ll do most of the talking. We’ll discuss topics that are useful and interesting to you : life, travel, work, food, culture, hobbies or situations you personally want to feel more comfortable in.

While we talk, I’ll help you:

• express your ideas more naturally
• improve your pronunciation
• expand the vocabulary you actually need
• correct recurring mistakes
• become more comfortable speaking without overthinking every sentence

I won’t stop you every few seconds to correct every small mistake. I prefer to let the conversation flow, note what would be most useful to improve, and then give you clear corrections and expressions you can reuse.

These are not traditional grammar-heavy lessons. The sessions are not one-size-fits-all. I adapt what we work on depending on your goals, your level and the situations where you want to feel more comfortable. The goal is for you to spend the session using French, not listening to me talk about French.

If you already understand some French but wish speaking felt easier and more natural, these lessons are made for you.

Free 30-minute first meeting

We’ll talk about your current French level, why you want to improve your speaking and the situations where you feel least comfortable.

We’ll also have a short conversation in French so I can see what you already do well and what would help you progress most.

There’s nothing to prepare beforehand just come as you are.
