About Naomi

My name is Naomi Sleator, I am 23 years old and have just achieved my Master of Arts degree in International Business and Spanish from the University of Edinburgh. I have three main passions: languages, writing and football. Having spent many years studying Spanish and spending time living in both Valencia and Madrid, I understand the importance of immersing oneself into a culture in order to fully engage and learn a language. I’d like to apply this learning to my native language, English, and help students realise the opportunities that language skills offer. As for creative writing, I believe universities and the education system in general are doing more harm than good, becoming more focused on analysis than innovative thinking. Because of this, I’ve had to independently teach myself how to write, studying different styles and genres. This proved successful, gaining full marks in creative writing evaluations at A-levels, match reporting for Knebworth FC, with many articles appearing in the Comet newspaper, and writing monologues or scripts in my spare time.

About the lesson

I like to make lessons as fun as possible, using the first free lesson to get to know the student, setting goals for the following weeks and finding foundations to build upon. Learning a language shouldn’t be treated as any other subject, simply memorising grammar from a textbook. Writing certainly shouldn’t be either. There’s a whole culture behind it. I also appreciate that students usually sign up for tutoring alongside studies/work commitments, so classes will be a productive but relaxed environment and very much orientated around the student’s needs. Language classes are mostly conversational - to improve confidence in speaking, vocabulary based, or written-based. Language Level taught: B2 and above (or for beginners starting with very basic vocabulary) I have students from all over the world of varying ages Creative writing lessons: mixed ability and age range
