About Alistair
I was born in Scotland and am a native English speaker. After completing my Bachelor's degree (in English) in Cape Town, South Africa, I worked for 40 years as a copywriter in the advertising industry, responsible for writing content for television, radio, film, outdoor advertising, and online communications. I have lived and worked in South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, and Germany. Over the years, I have also worked as an English teacher (for non-native speakers) and a mentor (for young writers). In addition, I have taught guitar and played and recorded music in various bands. I have proofread academic papers, including doctoral dissertations and have given educational lectures on arachnids. I look forward to meeting new students and sharing my experience, insights, and expertise with them.

Lessons are held in 30-minute modules and last a maximum of one hour. I can teach in person in Düsseldorf or online from anywhere. Lessons are individually tailored to the student's age, knowledge level, strengths and weaknesses, and personal interests. To determine these factors, I first have a 30-minute interview with the student (free of charge). If the student follows a set curriculum, for example, at school or university, I work with the prescribed textbooks. Otherwise, I use learning materials that meet individual needs. I prefer students aged 12 and up, university students, or professionals with at least an A2 level of English. Lessons are conducted in English, with only a little German used.
