About Ashley

Hello! I’m Ashley, and I’m excited to share my love for the Chinese language with you. I’m originally from Hong Kong, where I’m a native speaker of both Cantonese and Mandarin. I’ve lived in the UK for the past 10 years, which has allowed me to become fluent in English as well. With my background in language and culture, I’ve been teaching Chinese for 2 years, helping students of all ages and levels develop their language skills. I believe in creating an engaging and interactive learning environment that makes language learning both effective and enjoyable. I look forward to working with you and helping you achieve your language goals!

About the lesson

Communicative Approach: I emphasise speaking and listening from the very beginning. We use real-life scenarios to practise conversational skills, focusing on pronunciation and tone, which are crucial in Cantonese.

Structured Lessons: Each lesson follows a clear structure: warm-up, introduction of new material, practice (both speaking and listening), and a summary. This helps reinforce learning and ensures progression.

Interactive Activities: I incorporate games, role-plays, and multimedia resources (videos, songs) to make learning engaging and enjoyable. This keeps students motivated and helps with retention.

Cultural Context: Understanding the culture behind the language is key. I include cultural insights, idiomatic expressions, and everyday context to enrich the learning experience. Typical Length of a Lesson Lessons typically last 30-45 minutes. This duration allows for in-depth exploration of topics while keeping students focused and energised.

Qualifications/Experience Language Proficiency: I’m fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin and have extensive knowledge of its grammar and vocabulary.

Tutoring Experience: I have 2 years of experience teaching Cantonese and Mandarin to students of various ages and levels, from beginners to advanced learners. My Cantonese lessons cater to a wide range of students:

Age: I work with children (5+), teenagers, and adults. Level: Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to refine your skills, I tailor lessons to meet individual needs.
