About Derrick

Students deserve a tutor who brings proven expertise, professionalism, and a deep commitment to their success, and I take that responsibility seriously. As a nationally published math educator and department chair, I have dedicated my career to understanding how students learn and how to help them excel. My work has reached audiences beyond my own school community, affirming the quality and impact of my contributions to mathematics education. In addition, my experience as an AP Reader reflects the trust placed in me to evaluate high-level student work with accuracy, fairness, and expert judgment. I bring that same attention to detail and high standard of excellence to every tutoring partnership. Families can count on me for clear communication, thoughtful guidance, and a consistently professional experience. Above all, I strive to create an environment in which students feel supported, capable, and confident in their growth.

About the lesson

My tutoring approach centers on helping students build deep, confident understanding of mathematics through inquiry, discussion, and strategic problem‑solving.

I design lessons that begin with quick diagnostic warm‑ups, move into conceptual exploration, and then progress to guided and independent practice tailored to each learner.

Drawing on my experience as a department chair, nationally published math educator, and AP Reader, I bring a unique blend of research‑based strategies and high‑level assessment insight to every session.

What sets me apart is my ability to make students’ thinking visible, address misconceptions early, and connect ideas across multiple math courses.

My lessons are supportive, structured, and responsive, giving students the space to reason, revise, and grow.

I work with middle school, high school, and early college students across all math levels—from Algebra to AP Calculus—offering both remediation and enrichment.

My goal is always the same: to help students understand not just how to solve problems, but why the mathematics makes sense.
