About Helen

I am a British-South African, who has been educated in England, South Africa, and Italy. I completed the International Baccalaureate program in 2021. My subjects were: English, Philosophy, and Economics at higher level and Environmental Systems and societies, Italian, and Mathematics at standard level.

I am currently completing a business administration apprenticeship with the Department for Transport and I work in sustainable and affordable housing in the south east London area. My job has provided me with lots of experience in drafting guidance for local authorities, ministerial responses, and literature reviews.

I have always been passionate about global politics and current affairs and I believe being able to communicate well in a verbal and written format is extremely important in this field. - Hence why I am so eager to tutor students in this area.

About the lesson

Having been educated in three different countries I experienced a vast range of teaching styles. My tutoring style is tailored to each individual who I tutor and we will work towards achieving their personal goals in the subject as well as exam preparation for GCSEs, A-Levels, or IB.

My experience in school showed me that every student has a different learning style and when you are being taught by one person in a large classroom it is hard for a teacher to provide individualised teaching for those who may be struggling. This is why my tutoring style is largely based on what type of learner you are!

My first tutoring session will be free and in this session, I will ask you questions to discover what type of learner you are (visual, aural, read/write, kinesthetic).
After this, we will look at the areas that you would like to improve on. I can help teach you how to reference correctly - a valuable skill you will need in any subject that will greatly benefit you once you get to university. We can also work on your essay skills (whether it's in an exam setting or in assignment form). However, once we meet we will decide on what area we will focus your sessions.

Having completed the International Baccalaureate program myself, I was under an immense amount of academic pressure and I know how stressful that can be. This is why I am so passionate about providing individualised lesson plans for each of my students to ensure that they feel confident in their knowledge and abilities before completing any exams or assignments.
