About Alexia

Hi there! My name is Alexia and I have been working as a civilian in law enforcement for over 20 years! My job is called an informant and an infiltrator and my job was to help put the bad guys away! I have a mentor named Captain Christopher Hogan he has been my mentor since I was 16 years old! And he mentored me all the way through college and beyond! My last name is Polish, but my mother is Spanish and my father is Italian! Both of my parents were born and raised in the old country! But I was born here in Detroit, Michigan in the United States! So I am native English. But my relatives from Italy and other countries would come to visit my family and I every single year for a reunion. But when my Spanish family and my Italian family came to the United States to visit, they didn't know how to speak English, which made them feel very uncomfortable. So when I was in 5th grade I told my mother and father that I wanted to start teaching our family English, so when they came to the United States they would not feel so uncomfortable with others here in the US speaking English, where they quit understanding what they were saying! So I started teaching them English, and it took time but eventually they learned very well! And during my time teaching my family and then growing older and teaching other people how to speak English from countries such as Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Russia, Italy, and a few other countries! But I learned so much from the people that I was teaching English to from these countries! And do you know that I learned that Italians have a similar language to Spanish! I learned that when I was younger because they say I was always very happy to know that every time I talk to someone from a different country English they were able to learn from me, and I was able to learn from them about their country and their language! And I thought it was so great and amazing that I can tutor someone to speak a different language and they can teach me things as well as I can teach them things! And during my time of tutoring for 15 years I realize that I learned so much about different cultures just by tutoring someone who speaks a different language which I think is the most amazing thing in the world! I have 5 children, I have 2 girls and 3 boys. And as they got older and saw how much fun I was having being a tutor to people from different countries, they came to me one day and said that they wanted to learn how to teach people and tutor people, to help them learn a language they wanted to be part of their life! So, if I get to help you and teach you and be your tutor I promise you it will be a fun journey! I can't wait to meet you and learn about your country as well as you are about our country! Did you know that Italy and Spanish speaking countries their words are almost similar almost alike! I found that out you really cool when I was teaching my family to speak English! Then I grew up and I got older and I was in high school and they needed help because I went to a Spanish speaking high school I want to Spanish speaking kids but also English speaking kids too see I grew up in Detroit in an area called Southwest Detroit! That was all Spanish speaking area for Mexicans and Puerto Ricans and Cubans! I'm in a lot of friends from different cultures it was so interesting and so cool! So my high school counselor found out about my teaching my family speak English so they asked me if I wouldn't mind counseling some of my peers in my high school to teach them to speak English too! So it's time went on I sure tutoring people even through college! I have 5 children. I have 2 girls and 3 boys! And as they saw how much fun I was having teaching other people like Mexicans and Puerto Ricans Cubans etc Russians Italians I used to have so much fun because I got to learn about their culture as well as they wanted to teach me about their cultures too! We always had so much fun when I was teaching and tutoring!

About the lesson

Hello everyone! My name is Alexia, and I'm excited to be here with you today. I'm from Michigan, and for the past 15 years, I have been a tutor in English. Teaching is my passion, and I believe learning should be enjoyable! I am patient and like to make lessons fun. I encourage you to ask questions because together we can find the right answers. With my experience, I promise to make learning English engaging and enjoyable. We will explore vocabulary and reading at a pace that suits you best.
