About Ruth

I graduated with a degree in music in 1988, and since then have been working as a peripatetic instrumental teacher for local authorities and in a private capacity. I spent many years teaching for Dorset Music Service, until I moved to Luton in 2002. I have been working for Hertfordshire music service since then.
My first study is oboe, and piano as a close second, but have been teaching mixed woodwind for 30 years. I have experience of group and individual lessons, working with students aged 5 up to 75 in the private sector.
All students are offered the choice of ABRSM or Trinity guildhall examinations, and I am also an independent music medals assessor. Each year I submit 60 students for examinations with a 100 % success rate.
Lessons can be delivered in your home, or during the COVID crisis I have been teaching online too, and have adapted my teaching to provide lots of resources to support my students, eg recorded accompaniments, marking theory, and providing podcasts about theory chapters etc. Lesson lengths online can be from 20 minutes upwards, at home, the minimum length is 30 minutes.
As a pianist I also work for a dance school accompanying ballet classes, and am available to play for music exams etc.
If you are interested in theory only, I do run intensive theory sessions to fast track through grade five theory.
I have a broad experience of working in different environments, and during my freelance years, I worked as musician in residence at a hostel for SEN adults, and also been music provider at several SEN schools.
