About Shyli

I have had a passion for singing and musical theater since I was an Oompa Loompa in my school's production of "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory" at five years old. I have participated in choirs from kindergarten all the way through high school, have done upwards of 30 musical productions, 10 solo singing opportunities, and a multitude of awards for performance and voice through local and statewide competitions such as Spirit of the MACY Awards. I have tons of experience and passion teaching children the arts, through work experience in musical theater summer camps, and my pursuit of an Education Sciences major at UC Irvine.

About the lesson

My approach blends technical vocal training with performance-based confidence building, drawing on 12 years of personal choir and musical theatre experience alongside hands-on teaching of vocals and musical theatre to kids ages 5 to 12. A typical lesson opens with a vocal warm-up and check-in, moves into repertoire work where we break a song into manageable sections to address pitch, rhythm, and diction before rebuilding it as a whole, and closes with a low-pressure performance run to build stage confidence, all delivered through game-based, age-appropriate teaching. I value performance, not just technique, because building confidence and learning how to speak (or sing) in front of a group of people is a skill students will take everywhere they go. My lessons are geared toward elementary through middle school students at beginner to intermediate levels, meeting each student where they are, whether that's teaching first-time singers basic pitch-matching and breath control or helping a more advanced student prepare a musical theatre audition piece.
