About Lucy

Hey! I'm Lucy and I'm currently studying at university. Music is my passion and I'd love to pass it on through my Music Theory and Flute lessons. I'm a Grade 8 with distinction flautist and I am working towards my diploma. I am a kind, patient, and understanding individual who also helps students who require additional learning support. I have taught lessons in person, but now I am broadening my horizons online too.

As a student, I am up-to-date with exam content and exam technique, offering support and guidance with the most recent and relevant resources. As a flautist, I offer more than a decade of experience, as well as competing in many music competitions, concerts, masterclasses, workshops, weddings, and enjoying hundreds of lessons! Playing my flute is an absolute joy, and I would love to share my hobby with others.

I hold an Enhanced DBS.

About the lesson

- I offer Music Theory lessons Grades 1-5.
- In Music Theory we work through the ABRSM book series, and if the student has prior knowledge we can fill any gaps and tailor the sessions accordingly. Otherwise, we start with the very basics, and work our way up.
- If working towards a specific Grade exam I also have past exam papers which we can work through for extra practice.
- Music theory lessons are 1 hour and have an optional break halfway through.
- I studied up to and including Grade 8 theory but only took exams up to Grade 5.
- I offer flute lessons from Grades 1-8.
- Flute lessons are either 30 mins, 45 mins, or 1 hr long depending on level (the latter two mainly for Grade 7+). We can work towards a Grade through ABRSM (which I'm most familiar with) or Trinity, or simply play for fun. The lessons are tailored to the student's abilities in a stress-free, productive, fun environment.
- Lessons usually start with scales and knowing how to tune your flute, while training the ear (long notes with tuner/piano focusing on intonation), a few scales, followed by sight-reading, and then pieces. Higher grades start work on harmonics and different tonguing techniques (single, double, triple, flutter).
- If playing for fun, I will aid the individual's skill with any particular piece they bring to the session. If preparing for a music examination, then we will work on sight-reading, aural, and the required A, B, and unaccompanied C, section pieces for ABRSM, focusing on the individual's areas of weakness or discomfort.
- I achieved my Grade 8 with distinction in June 2018 and am working towards my diploma.
- Music Theory and Flute lessons for all ages and abilities.
