About Declan
At first, a singer/songwriter, then a performer, followed by arts management and now a media composer, I have experienced many different parts of the music industry. I have spent the last 8 years working and travelling between Scotland and the United States as a Performing Art and Musical Director for theatre companies and summer camps. I have also worked with local composers in a variety of roles such as studio engineer, producer, orchestrator and conductor. Some of my recent projects involve working in different music teams with SONY PlayStation, Pixar, Disney and Netflix. I currently work as a songwriter and composer having racked up credits on 8 short films, 2 features and a videogame. I received recognition as a BAFTA scholar for my outstanding contribution towards music and education in the US. I am a graduate of the University of the West of Scotland with a Bachelor's Degree in Commercial Music Production and a Master's Degree in Technology and Applied Composition from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

Lessons take place online and that is great! Learn by screen and audio sharing to allow students to watch and practise on the spot. My pedagogy involves students getting hands-on. That's how I learn best and with music the way to build skills is through practice. I like to focus on building the foundations of music and DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) theory. At its core, that is the most important skill to being a great music producer. Together we will work on your skills through fun and engaging lessons. By crafting unique individual lesson plans I will kickstart your musical journey by building your knowledge and technique. We will hone in on your musical voice which is essential to keeping motivated and engaged to learn as much as you can. As the saying goes...It's a marathon, not a sprint! Our lessons will also focus on building your musical ear. The better your musical ear the better musician you can become and that takes time. Not sure what you want? We've all been there. I can share my 10+ years of knowledge to help make your journey as smooth as it can be! I welcome anyone from complete beginners to advanced.

Declan has been my daughter's piano tutor for 6 months now. He has tutored her on Skype throughout lockdown and we are now back to lessons in person. Declan is a great tutor and has been fantastic at helping my daughter develop in her skills and theory but also keeping the lessons fun and her interested.
I have been taking vocal coaching lessons with Declan and I have no hesitation in recommending him as a tutor. Declan is very skilled, knowledgeable and patient and provides feedback and advice on improving vocal techniques. My singing voice and confidence has improved greatly through working with Declan.
