About Melisa

I am a musician at heart! I love music in every form - from playing classical pieces on the piano, singing, accompaniment, or simply sharing my musical knowledge with people. I completed my Diploma in Music Performance by Trinity College London (ATCL) with Distinction. From a tender age of 4 years old, I started my musical journey of performing solo on stage singing “You Are My Sunshine”. I went on to win second runner up for a National Junior Piano Recital Competition at the age of 9. I was the school pianist throughout high school and also volunteered as a church pianist for a number of years. Music has been my life. Although I pursued a corporate career, music was always the centre of my life and kept me grounded. I have sung and played the piano at numerous events including weddings. More recently, I got involved as an accompanist for Christmas carolling events and went on to pursue my dream of obtaining my Diploma in Piano Recital. To me, music is an art in which we express our individuality. I would love to share my passion, knowledge and experience with students in early musical education who are looking to develop their musical sense and experience music in all its glory!

About the lesson

My approach to music is simple - love music, practise hard and the rest will follow. I am a new music teacher, but I bring with me an enormous array of musicality - improvisation, playing by ear and singing whilst playing the piano. I am keen to impart my knowledge to early musical education to form a solid foundation and keen interest in music. My lessons will be structured towards an introduction to tonality, hearing and rhythm - the seeds of musical education. Once a musical ear is formed, further development on score reading, understanding of musical structures and harmonisation will be formed for the student to master and appreciate music. Every student is unique, therefore I will base my teaching approach according to the student’s musical level and capability. My teaching methodology encompasses both classical music and playing for leisure - bringing together formal and informal approaches to achieve relevant, sustainable and realistic engagement in music. I am a patient individual and will strive to provide a structured and consistent musical education to your child bringing out the best.
