About Asa
Asa Lam is currently pursuing a Postgraduate Certificate of Education in Secondary Music with Specialist Instrument Teaching at Manchester Metropolitan University and the Royal Northern College of Music. He earlier received a Bachelor of Arts in Music (Hons.) with first-class honours from Hong Kong Baptist University in 2017. Asa started playing the cello at six and joined various concert tours and music festivals in Europe at a young age. He was previously coached by Norbert Anger, principal cellist of the Staatskapelle Dresden and Jeffrey Noel Lastrapes, professor of cello at Texas Tech University in master classes. Asa also served as the associate principal cellist in the Hong Kong Baptist University Symphony Orchestra and cellist in the Collegium Musicum Hong Kong. Being a devoted cellist in the orchestras, Asa has shared the stage with world-class musicians such as Jian Wang, Joshua Bell, Mahan Esfahani, Melvyn Tan, Yundi Li, The King's Singers and performed under the baton of Peter Guth. Asa has been actively participating in Hong Kong's pop music production in recent years. In early 2015, he participated in the 37th Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs Awards held by RTHK as a live cellist. In 2017, he was featured in the 21OZ concert as a quartet cellist accompanying pop singers and other local bands such as Dear Jane and RubberBand. He has as well been participating in the production of movie music. In 2020, he has recorded several original movie music, including the theme song of “Beyond the Dream” and the soundtrack of “Bamboo Theatre”, featuring his playing of Bach Suite No.1. Apart from being a performer, Asa also values music education which he has started private and school teachings since 2013. Besides being a cello tutor, he was also a string orchestra coach and assistant conductor of Maryknoll Convent School (Primary Section) in Hong Kong. Asa enjoys teaching, nurturing and interacting with his students as he hopes to provide quality music education to the next generation. Asa is keen to continue his teaching career in the UK, particularly in the North West region.
